Pasig City Museum

    THE NOSTALGIA OF YESTERDAY

PASIG CITY MUSEUM

Filipino's loves to treasure memories of the yesterday, for them it must not be forgotten. A museum is more than a place to go when you're bored, it's a place where you can mentally travel in time to see how things have changed over time. The Pasig City Museum displays antiques and items related to the city's development, as well as some relics from the previous owner. Now, let's all travel back in time and discover how the city that everyone adores reach its peak to the city it is today.

The famous Spanish-Baroque Mansion was built in 1937 as a present for Don Fortunato Cabrera Concepcion's wife, Don Fortunato Cabrera Concepcion served as the City's mayor in year 1918 to 1921.

The late Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon visited the house to drink pure carabao milk and have some non-political discussions with Don Conception, which was one of the key events that the mansion played for. In addition, during World War II, the Japanese used the mansion as their headquarters and detention camp, and on February 19, 1945, the American flag was hoisted on the terrace beneath the mansion's tower to commemorate Pasig's liberation from the Japanese forces.

In the early 1980's the municipal of the local government of Pasig purchased the Concepcion Mansion and converted it as the city's library and museum. But then, later on the Pasig Library was transferred in year 2001, hence the museum become it's lone occupant.

When you visit the museum you can expect to see a various objects, memorabilia, and artifacts with historic and contemporary significance. The museum also showcases a small collection of works by Filipino artists such as Fernando Amorsolo, the National Artist for Painting, and the National Artist for Sculpture, Guillermo Tolentino. And, the the highlight of the museum is the statue of a mermaid also known as "Mutya ng Pasig," the mutya ng pasig is said to be the one responsible for the cleanliness of the Pasig River during the early times.

Panaderia Dimas-Alang

THE TIMELESS SCENT OF A MEMORY

(pandesal,bread)

For every Filipinos, bread is not only a baked product made up of pastry but a tradition, expression of love, and a childhood memory. Not only that it goes well with coffee, milk, or any hot drinks but it also goes well with eating it with someone just like sharing a hot pandesal in the morning with their loved ones.

In Pasig, Bread and Pastries holds a very special place in their hearts because of the famous Dimas-Alang bakeshop that has witnessed a thousand of smiles of Pasigeños throughout the years.

Panaderia Dimas-Alang
was the first known bakeshop in 1919 which was established in Pasig and was founded by Ambrosio Lozada in the same year. The name of the shop shared the same pen name as the one that our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal used which adds to its prominence in the early days of Pasig's entrepreneurial career.

It is not only known for being the oldest bakeshop in Pasig, but also for serving the best quality of baked products to the Pasigeños up to this day, so if you are planning to visit the city of Pasig, you should not miss the oppurtunity of stopping by Dimas-Alang.

Here are some of their best sellers that are very popular among the Pasigeños and is a must try when you visit:

BICHO-BICHO
- A twisted bread that is deep fried and coated with sugar.

ENSAYMADA

- A spiral shaped pastry topped with margarin, powdered sugar and cheese.

HINDI KO AKALAIN
- A sugary pastry in the size of Scrabble tiles.

For the past decades that Dimas-Alang has been running and many bakeshop has appeared in the city, Pasigeños number one go-to-bakeshop may it be for almusal, miryenda, or for special occasions, has remained to be Panaderia Dimas-Alang.

Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral of Pasig

"Timeless history and a Pasig City treasure"

Pasig Cathedral is a Catholic Cathedral located in Plaza Rizal, Barangay Malinao, Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is known as the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish. It is the mother church, the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Pasig, and one of the city's oldest structures.

HistorY

On July 2, 1573, the Augustinian missionaries established it as a parish, coinciding with the establishment of the town of Pasig. The parish was originally dedicated to Our Lady of the Visitation, but on April 25, 1587, it was changed to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the Augustinian priests of the time.

The church functioned as the British military headquarters during the brief British occupation of Manila from 1762 to 1764, with its belfry serving as a lookout against the Spanish defenders.

Following the Augustinians, the CICM missionaries came and took over parish management in 1910. The group established the first parochial school for boys three years later (present-day Pasig Catholic College).

In February 2021, as part of the Celebration of the 500th Year Anniversary of the Arrival of Christianity in the Philippines, the Cathedral-Parish was named as a Jubilee Church in the Diocese of Pasig along with the Diocesan Shrine of St. Martha and Parish of St. Roch in Pateros and the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig.

Did you know?

† Pasig Cathedral is Asia's oldest Marian parish. The cathedral, like other cathedrals in the Philippines, is built in a baroque Spanish style with adobe bricks.

† There's a passageway on the right side of the church that leads to the Pasig Diocesan Museum. Exquisite church vestments and ancient cathedral emblems such as crucifixes, candelabras, chalices, incense boats, mass gongs, church beams, and Spanish tiles are on show at the museum.

From my Experience

When I visited there, I felt like I was transported back in time since it is also a piece of history. It's a good location to pray and ponder about your problems.. I observed several people who did not respect the location as they should have because It is not merely a tourist attraction, but also a church that must be respected..

THE LINEAR PLAZA BONIFACIO!

"A PLACE OF TRIBUTE AND SOLACE"

The New Linear Bonifacio Plaza, located near the Pasig Museum in Alkalde Jose Street and F. Concepcion Street, Barangay Kapasigan, Pasig City, and was inaugurated on the 23rd day of November, year 2018.

It was built to bring tribute to the great Supremo of the Katipunan Andres Bonifacio in light of the mighty monument of him in the very front and center of the Plaza.

Though it was made for tribute, it also has a different purpose envisioned by the people and the government of Pasig.

It was seen to be a place, where people can release their creative energy, find inspiration and comfort while going through life's biggest challenges. It has a great landscape that is maintained very well, as to always fulfill the motto of our city "Living Green".

A fountain that could symbolize chances and opportunities, a parking space below it, staircases that symbolizes how one can over come hardships one step at a time,

and a cafeteria to quench the hunger of those who visit there.

My Experience: The Bonifacio Plaza is great and the statue of the great Supremo overseeing the plaza and the people is a sight to see. It is very well-maintained and a really great place for hanging out the food court is great and there's a variety of choices, and I had a great time here.

PICTURES TAKEN BY ICT ASUS IN RAVE

"What I experienced going to the rainforest 7 years ago was probably my happiest year of all time. Because when my parents planned out to go there, me and my siblings were excited since we barely even went for a complete family vacation, they even invited our relatives on that year. But what we did there was we rode the Mini-Train, we also checked out the rainforest zoo with lots of animals, and there was a playground in the park so we did go there and played and my dad asked me to sit on the bench with him and take a selfie. And after doing those fun things, we visited the main park of the rainforest to have a picnic, after we ate me and my relatives began to wander through the park and that's all." - Calzado, Andrey

"The day we visited rainforest in this picture was PASIG DAY 2017, We had free tickets to access every tourist spot inside. This Day was one of the best because I'm with my family enjoying the moment that we had. We swam, Took a trip by a train, Went to the Flower Garden and Zoo. We also rode the zipline but, i don't have any pictures with it. It was fun and exciting because we were floating in heights. I'm scared at first but as the time goes, I started to love the view. it was short but it was fun." - Dantic, Rona Mae

"We've been here before. The location was well-kept, clean, and spacious! Perfect spot for a stroll and bonding with your loved ones... Despite the fact that some of the statues are worn out, this is still a great area to spend time with your family. We were unable to use their pool due to a large population on weekends, but what's Important to me is that I got to spend time with my Family." - Bermas, Charlie Ken

"On Jan 22, 2013, We went on vacation in the rainforest I remember that time we went swimming and this was an unforgettable thing that was my picture with my mom because this is the only thing we had a selfie together." - Delarosa Kim Noel
