"Timeless history and a Pasig City treasure"
Pasig Cathedral is a Catholic Cathedral located in Plaza Rizal, Barangay Malinao, Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is known as the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish. It is the mother church, the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Pasig, and one of the city's oldest structures.
HistorY
On July 2, 1573, the Augustinian missionaries established it as a parish, coinciding with the establishment of the town of Pasig. The parish was originally dedicated to Our Lady of the Visitation, but on April 25, 1587, it was changed to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the Augustinian priests of the time.
The church functioned as the British military headquarters during the brief British occupation of Manila from 1762 to 1764, with its belfry serving as a lookout against the Spanish defenders.
Following the Augustinians, the CICM missionaries came and took over parish management in 1910. The group established the first parochial school for boys three years later (present-day Pasig Catholic College).
In February 2021, as part of the Celebration of the 500th Year Anniversary of the Arrival of Christianity in the Philippines, the Cathedral-Parish was named as a Jubilee Church in the Diocese of Pasig along with the Diocesan Shrine of St. Martha and Parish of St. Roch in Pateros and the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig.
Did you know?
† Pasig Cathedral is Asia's oldest Marian parish. The cathedral, like other cathedrals in the Philippines, is built in a baroque Spanish style with adobe bricks.
† There's a passageway on the right side of the church that leads to the Pasig Diocesan Museum. Exquisite church vestments and ancient cathedral emblems such as crucifixes, candelabras, chalices, incense boats, mass gongs, church beams, and Spanish tiles are on show at the museum.
From my Experience
When I visited there, I felt like I was transported back in time since it is also a piece of history. It's a good location to pray and ponder about your problems.. I observed several people who did not respect the location as they should have because It is not merely a tourist attraction, but also a church that must be respected..

my grandma is an usherette here, until now. This church has a leaning tower. its so cool because it doesn't fall. although i hope it wouldn't fall but its still cool.
ReplyDeleteI went here once with my friends and there was an on-going 6:00 pm prayer, it was very calm and refreshing to see that the church unites the people through religion and God. The structure is also very interesting as it gives off a historic vibe and a place where you feel safe in the presence of the holiness.
